Good News

Good news on the kidneys! His left kidney (or the tube that connects it to the bladder) is no longer swollen. The right one is still a bit enlarged so we will have another ultrasound in 6 months to check on it again. The doctor thinks that most likely this one will correct itself too and he will get a clean bill of health by his first birthday!

He is all signed up for daycare at a home daycare in Burien. He will start that on January 12th... I am much more nervous than he is and will probably cry more than him that day as well! It is hard to hand your baby over to other people... no one is as good as we are, no one. But that is life and I know he will be in good hands. Here are some more photos of the little one...

Wish he was this peaceful all the time...

Cabecao

Luca had his 3 month check-up yesterday (although he's technically a little over 3 1/2 months now). He is 15.5 lbs (7kgs), 25 inches long... 75th percentile in both weight and height. His noggin however is in the 95 percentile! Seems he has a big head like his father :) We are just assuming that it's because his brain is so large and intelligent that it needs a big space to live!

We finally got some professional photos done and I posted this collage of the best ones. We of course fell in love with many and spent a bundle but look at that face... how can you not? He is doing better with sleeping again, although still waking up quite a bit. He is eating like crazy right now so we think he is in a growth spurt of some sort. The doctor told us to up his acid reflux meds since he's grown so much since we put him on it (the dosage is too small) and he is still fussy at feeding time.

He is at the nephrologist as I write this so we will find out later today how his kidneys are.

We are starting to panic, ok really I am starting to panic... as Amauri never does, about the trip to Brazil. We are trying to get everything ready and in place. We are very excited to see Luca in a pool and on the beach (under umbrellas of course) and to see his little chubby body without the massive layers of clothing! It will be good to get away from this 20 degree weather.

Great News

Well little Luca had another ultra sound done today at Children's. The ultra sound person said that his kidneys looked a little better! We have an appointment with his nephrologist (kidney doctor) on the 16th and she will fully look at the images and talk us through them. But it's nice to know that an intial peek at them seemed to be good news.

We had a week where Luca was sleeping wonderfully! He would go to bed between 9 and 11 and sleep until 4:30 or 5! Unfortunately that didn't last very long... he is now sleeping horribly. He goes to bed around the same time, but doesn't seem to ever deep sleep. He tosses and turns and wimpers all night long. We have to keep putting his binky in and place our hand on his chest to keep him from freaking out too much. Sometimes that doesn't work so we have to bring him to our bed and hold him. We can't figure out why he is so restless. It looks like he's watching a really scary tennis match in his sleep! We will have to talk to the doctor at our next appointment. We wonder if it might be teething since he is drooling like it's his job and loves to chew on his hand, but I hope not because that would mean this bedtime behavior will continue!
Here's another photo Noli and her baby! More photos this weekend, hopefully... need to find the time to download them off the camera!

Sad Huskies

Sad, sad Huskies... we are still upset with the loss of Apple Cup, but are trying to move forward at this point. We spent yesterday afternoon at Scott and Nina's and Noli has become very attached to Luca. So much so that she became very upset anytime someone else tried to hold him. She has decided he is her baby and belongs in her arms only. As you can see from this photo, that is a very funny notion as he is almost as big as she is! We had a fun time and I can happily say that Luca slept from 11pm-5am this morning! I didn't have to turn on the noise maker once! I am truly hoping he has turned that corner, although not counting on it (don't want to get my hopes up yet).

We are getting excited for the Brazil trip and are trying to get everything in order. Although its 4 weeks away, that seems very close with a baby in tote. I will try to post more photos later tonight.

Better Days

Well Luca seems to be doing better, so we're hoping it's because of the medicine and not that he just had two nice days. He has slept well the past two nights and is less fussy during the day. He is now completely enamored with his daddy. Every time Amauri comes into the room, his eyes light up and he starts to smile and giggle. It's wonderful to watch... he just adores him. The cats have become adjusted to Luca, although they all leave the rooom when he starts screaming. At times we wish we could go with the cats! I've setteled back into the work routine and seem to be getting enough sleep (around 5-6 hours broken into two shifts) although by Friday I am exhausted and not a very pleasant person to be around.

We are anxiously awaiting the holidays... we will be going out to Snoqualmie next weekend to go tree shopping with friends (although won't be getting a tree). Seems strange I know, but it's become a tradition between our two families and we can't miss a year! Plus, it will be fun to take photos of Luca outdoors.

Poor Baby Luca

The doctor thinks that Luca has acid reflux... which I can tell you from my experience during pregnancy is horrible! We have to put him on antacids for 7 days to see if he gets better. If he does then we'll continue to give them to him... if not, then it's back to the doctor we go.

My poor little sweet pea. I wanted to go home and snuggle with him the minute I found out. Apparently, he screamed bloody murder the entire time he was at the doc's, then pooed all over his entire body and outfit. Needless to say, Amauri has had his hands full today!

Upset Tummy

Very sleepy today. This weekend was a rough one. Luca has been fussier than usual and his tummy has been very upset. He didn't sleep at all on Friday, but then was narcoleptic on Saturday night. Sunday morning was a great morning. He and I laughed and giggled all morning long. We then took a field trip to Babies r Us and found ourselves in the infant toy isle demo-ing sound toys. He squealed with delight when I pressed a little green stuffed monster that makes the sound 'BLAH' when you squeeze him. So I bought it for him, as I am such a sucker for my cute little boy! He became fussy again later in the day and would not sleep. He got up throughout the night last night but was not very interested in eating. Amauri will take him to the doctor today just to make sure he's ok. We'd rather be safe than sorry. Plus I hate seeing him so upset, makes me so sad! Will post again after the doctor.

The first day of blogging

So this is our first day of blogging. Just getting everything set up. I am back to work full time and it has been quite an adjustment. I went from being with my new baby 24 hours a day, to being gone from him for 11. It has proved to be tough, but I am able to make it work since Amauri is staying home with Luca until we get back from Brazil in January.

Luca has started to become less fussy, although don't let the word 'less' fool you into thinking he doesn't have nights full of screaming anymore. He does, just less of them. We are anxiously awaiting for the day he begins to sleep for 6+ hours at a time. He is still getting up in the night to feed, but I have noticed the last few nights, he doesn't eat as much, so perhaps this will phase out over time.

He is still in his bassinet in our room... we are waiting for a monitor replacement before we attempt putting him in the crib again. He enjoyed his first Halloween and was super excited to be a dragon. Can't you see the excitement on his face?
Well, love to everyone... more later.
